The real reason Turkey 🇹🇷 and Iran 🇮🇷 are engaging in a conflict in Northern Syria 🇸🇾 and Northern Iraq 🇮🇶 is to gain access to strategic 🛢 oil fields and pipelines in these regions (primarily Northern Iraq) that has historically been controlled by the Kurdish people since the 11th Century. This operation is a direct result of U.S. forces pulling out of Iraq in 2021 that has created a power vacuum in this territory known as Kurdistan (autonomously recognized since 1970 by the former Iraqi government) and reconfirmed in 2005 during the U.S. led invasion of Iraq in March of 2003. This conflict could cause global oil prices to hit well over $150 a barrel if not resolved in due time.
